Outdoor House on Fire at Powderham Castle
The burning down of the Exeter Theatre Royal in 1887 is a notable event in the history of Exeter and the history of theatre itself: it was the direct cause of the introduction of legal safety precautions in all theatres. But Exeter had been an important centre of theatre for the previous 500 years, starting with the Brotherhood of Brothelyngham (yes, really, google them). Like a House of Fire gives us some less than serious snapshots of the key moments, some of them set to music.
This is an adapted version of the original show presented in the Matthews Hall, Topsham, in April 2023.
